If you’ve ever been to P.F. Chang’s, you’ve likely had the chain’s self-proclaimed signature dish: the lettuce wraps. The Chinese-inspired restaurant doesn’t disclose what’s in its “secret family recipe,” but the concoction of ground chicken, scallions, and salty sauce is a mainstay on the menu.
Despite the closely guarded recipe, it’s easy enough to find a copycat version of Chang’s Lettuce Wraps to make at home. But what if you don’t feel like chopping chicken, draining and mincing water chestnuts, or combining oils like a chemist to carefully concoct a balanced sweet and savory sauce?
Fear not: Trader Joe’s has come in clutch with a new item that mimics P.F. Chang’s iconic appetizer.
Trader Joe’s Releases New Chicken Lettuce Wraps
Without explicitly mentioning P.F. Chang’s, Trader Joe’s notes that its new Chicken Lettuce Wraps are inspired by “an icon of restaurant appetizers.” And it looks just like it. The new single-serve prepared item is fully-cooked and priced at $5.99.
Unlike Chang’s Lettuce Wraps, the Trader Joe’s recipe is no secret. Per the official product listing, the pre-cooked filling contains ground chicken, fried noodles, shredded carrots, cilantro, black sesame seeds, and a soy-sesame sauce with hints of ginger. The kit even comes with slices of fresh Greenberg lettuce.
One self-identified Trader Joe’s crew member on TikTok, @1brookeannes, posted a video about the new find, singing its praises. “I don’t know if we can say this, but it’s kind of giving P.F. Chang’s vibes,” they said. “It’s really freaking good,” they added, giving the product a “10 out of 10.”
“3,000,000/10,” someone else commented. “So, so good.”
“This was so good,” said another fan. “I had it for the first time today! Hopefully it sticks around for a while!”
So far, shoppers on social media have spotted this new item at locations on the West Coast, but it doesn’t hurt to keep an eye out for this TJ’s find on your next visit. Like the now viral Halloween tote bags, it could just be a slow roll out.
