When it comes to unique grocery products, Trader Joe’s is the ideal market for seasonal snacks, cult-classic meals, and fan-favorite innovations. But when the shelves are constantly restocked with new goodies, limited-time offerings, and the decades-old TJ’s staples, “in with the new” unfortunately requires quite a bit of “out with the old.”

More often than not, Trader Joe’s seasonal products are swapped out first, but when a beloved classic bites the dust, it hurts a little extra. Luckily for Trader Joe’s shoppers, one discontinued item—which had been on the shelves for over a decade—is finally back, and might be better than ever.

Trader Joe’s Frozen Mini Chicken Tacos Are Back

Trader Joe’s is known for its frozen heat-and-eat offerings, from veggie-friendly Pad Thai and spaghetti dishes to mini croissants—and the grocery store’s Mini Chicken Tacos are no exception.

Trader Joe’s original Mini Chicken Tacos (and their beef counterparts) were an easy crowd-favorite, though the chain discontinued them in 2021. The following year, TJ’s introduced a product that looked the same but was sourced from a new supplier, and fans were disappointed by the substitution, to say the least. The latest iteration of the mini tacos was discontinued two years after its release. Now, the fan-favorite tacos are back—and rumor has it, Trader Joe’s is using the original supplier.

Just like the originals, Trader Joe’s Mini Chicken Tacos feature tiny corn tortillas stuffed with all-white chicken meat flavored with a chipotle-tomato seasoning blend. These fried mini tacos come frozen and are easily crisped in the air fryer (or microwaved in a pinch). Pair it with guacamole or salsa for a perfect snack or addition to your Taco Tuesday spread.

“The frozen Mini Chicken Tacos are a must-have in my book, especially on chaotic days when you’re too busy to cook,” says Allrecipes editor Stephanie Meraz. “I don’t think my freezer was ever without a box (or three) of Mini Chicken Tacos.”

The best thing about them, according to Meraz? “The tacos are made with a corn tortilla rather than flour, which means they’re gluten-free—a huge win for my fellow gluten-intolerant folk.”

“These were my go-to afterschool snack all throughout high school, and even a quick dinner on busy weeknights when my family couldn’t be bothered to cook,” adds editor Courtney Kassel, who is excited about the prospect of the originals making a comeback. “I will be running to TJ’s for a box to quell some nostalgic cravings (and probably a second box for football Sunday snacking).”

Each 16-ounce box of frozen tacos retails for $5.99, making them an affordable option for a quick snack or addition to dinner. I’ll be matching Meraz and Kassel and stocking up while the tacos are in stores—and personally, I’ll be drenching mine in TJ’s Jalapeño Sauce.
