And if you’re a part of the 70 percent of Americans trying to boost your intake, this is the news you’ve been waiting for. Because if there’s one thing more popular than protein, it’s coffee. Put the two together? We’re fueled and ready to take on anything—just in time for trick-or-treating, Thanksgiving prep, and holiday shopping.

I got an early taste of the brand’s Banana Protein Cold Foam over the summer, so I knew what was in store. But now, we can all enjoy Starbucks’ new protein lineup—in coffeehouses across the U.S. and Canada all year round.

So what’s on the protein-packed menu? Baristas will be busier than ever with three new Protein Cold Foam drinks and four featured Protein Lattes.

In the cold foam corner, we start with the Iced Banana Cream Protein Matcha—a creamy, green tea latte topped with Banana Protein Cold Foam, weighing in at 24 grams of protein per grande. Next is the Iced Vanilla Cream Protein Latte, where espresso meets Vanilla Protein Cold Foam for 26 grams of smooth, sweet energy. Finally, the Chocolate Cream Protein Cold Brew is cold brew coffee layered with Chocolate Protein Cold Foam and vanilla syrup for around 19 grams of protein power.

On the latte side, we have a Protein Matcha, Sugar-Free Vanilla Protein Matcha, Vanilla Protein Latte, and Sugar-Free Vanilla Protein Latte—all available in hot or iced varieties. These drinks follow traditional latte recipes but use protein-boosted milk. The matchas offer 28 to 36 grams of protein per grande cup, while the lattes boast 27 to 29 grams of protein per grande.

If none of those menu items strike your fancy, Protein Cold Foam and protein-boosted milk can be added to your usual go-to for an upcharge.

The creamy, frothy foam offers 15 grams per grande in favorites like coffee, iced tea, or Refreshers—in the flavor of your choice, from banana, vanilla, sugar-free vanilla, chocolate, matcha, salted caramel, and brown sugar, to plain with no added sugar. Of course, ever on trend, Starbucks has seasonal cold foam flavors currently available for a limited time, including pumpkin and pecan. 

Likewise, the whey protein-boosted 2% milk can be swapped into any hot or iced beverage where milk is involved. This adds an extra 12–16 grams per grande.

My Honest Review of Starbucks’ New Protein Drinks

I got the chance to sample all of the updated beverages—and I’m still buzzing. As I mentioned, my preview of the Banana Protein Cold Foam had me excited from the jump. And the Iced Banana Cream Protein Matcha earns my top pick among the newcomers, hitting all the creamy, grassy, velvety notes I look for in a matcha, with a perfect balance of sweetness. As a Raspberry Cold Foam fan, the banana might now take its place. The Chocolate Cream Protein Cold Brew is a close second, satisfying the opposite end of the flavor profile for a rich, decadent, roasted sip.

The rest of the options are pretty much business as usual, which is good news for those who don’t want to actually taste the added protein. The integration seems fairly seamless, other than a slight sweetness and a different, heavier mouthfeel.

So whether you go for a matcha, latte, cold brew, or a custom creation, Starbucks’ new protein drinks offer a one-cup solution to fuel up and power through your morning.
