One thing we love about cereal is that it goes way beyond breakfast. Sure, it’s delicious in a bowl of cold milk, but the crunchy, sweetened bits make a great snack, too. You can whip up homemade cereal bars, add it to trail mix, or load up your favorite brand with decadent toppings for the ultimate midnight snack.
And luckily, there are always new types of cereal to stock up on. Recently, Cinnamon Toast Crunch brought back Apple Pie Toast Crunch, and Honey Bunches of Oats launched a Sugar Cookie cereal, a flavor that’s perfect for the holiday season.
Now, Kellogg’s is adding a brand-new cereal to its lineup, and we can’t believe it didn’t exist before.
Kellogg’s Introduces New Cocoa Loops
Toucan Sam is known for gracing the front of Froot Loops, but now the colorful character is featured on another cereal box. Kellogg’s Cocoa Loops are rolling out to retailers and offering fans a sweet new way to start their day. The cereal’s ingredients include whole grain yellow corn flour, sugar, whole grain oat flour, and real cocoa.

“We’re thrilled to introduce Cocoa Loops—an exciting new cocoa twist on a fan favorite,” said Doug VanDeVelde, Chief Growth Officer at WK Kellogg Co. “Toucan Sam has always been a chocolate fanatic, and we’re proud to bring this innovation to the world on his behalf.”
Food insider @markie_devo shared a photo of the cereal on Instagram, and longtime Froot Loops fans expressed their excitement for the product. “I’m almost 39, and Froot Loops are still my favorite cereal lol. I’d definitely try it,” said one Instagram user in the comments. “This feels like something they should have started doing 20 years ago, I’m looking forward to this,” added another.
A few noted that the release reminds them of a different popular chocolate cereal brand. “Don’t we have another bird whose cereal turns milk chocolatey?” joked one person in reference to Post’s Cocoa Puffs. Another pointed out that Toucan Sam’s cereals are similar to Fruity Pebbles, which also has a fruity and chocolate version.
My Honest Review of Cocoa Loops
My cereal-loving family was thrilled to find Cocoa Loops on shelves at Hy-Vee, so of course, we immediately grabbed a box. Upon opening the bag, the first thing I noticed was a strong chocolate smell. Each bite was crunchy and didn’t get soggy after sitting in milk for a few minutes. The cereal itself wasn’t overly sweet, which I appreciated. I did, however, wish it tasted a bit more like chocolate. Overall, I’d say it’s definitely worth a try, even though it won’t be dethroning my household favorite, Oreo Puffs.
Kellogg’s Cocoa Loops are heading to stores nationwide and are expected to land at all major retailers by January. And, unlike other limited-time cereals that have launched this fall, Cocoa Loops will be a permanent addition to the Kellogg’s lineup.
