If you’re a candy lover, we don’t have to tell you there are tiers when it comes to sour candy. In the grand scheme of things, Nerds, Sour Skittles, and Sour Patch Kids aren’t all that offensive to the palate compared to heavy hitters like Warheads, classic Retro Sours, or the infamous Toxic Waste.

Of course, preference is everything. If you like your sour candies sitting somewhere between sweet and tart, you might reach for Trader Joe’s Sour Strawberry Candy Belts or the limited-edition Sour Brite Abominable Snowmen. But if you like your sweets to pack a serious, almost painful punch, you’ll want to know about a new sour candy that’s coming soon. The only catch? You may have to visit America’s “sourest” city to try it first.

Haribo Launches New Sour Sodas

This Halloween, Haribo is introducing a brand-new candy for fans who like their sweets equal parts sugar rush and sour shock, bringing back a fan-favorite gummy in a face-twisting new flavor.

The 100-year-old German candy maker is one of the world’s biggest gummy brands. And after its signature Goldbears, few shapes are more iconic than Haribo’s cola bottles, which have been in production since the 1980s. The bite-sized, bottle-shaped Happy Colas might be the best known, but the mildly tangy Fizzy Colas are just as beloved.

Now, Haribo is turning up the tartness another notch with its new Sour Sodas, joining the trend toward bolder, tongue-tingling flavors. These soda-inspired gummies deliver a balanced sour kick with a soft center and a light, crunchy coating, available in three flavor duos: Cherry-Cola, Lemon-Strawberry, and Peach-Blue Raspberry.

“I can’t tell you how hyped I am for these,” shared one fan who spotted them at the 2025 Sweets & Snacks Expo. “Haribo Cola bottles are [fire], so I imagine these will only be better!”

To celebrate the launch, Haribo is heading straight to the “Sourest City in America” (as determined by national sour gummy sales data from Circana) for an exclusive Halloween debut.

This October, Houston will host a one-of-a-kind Haribo pop-up in the city’s Heights neighborhood. The first 1,000 guests will be among the very first to try Sour Sodas before they hit store shelves.

“Haribo Sour Sodas give fans exactly what they’ve been asking for: bold sour flavors in exciting combinations that make every bite an experience,” said Abigail Bennie, director of brand management at Haribo, in a press release. “We can’t wait to bring people together over the immersive joy of sour; everyone has a favorite, and the best part is sharing them.”

Haribo hasn’t confirmed a national release date just yet, but if the Houston debut goes well, hopefully we can expect these fizzy, flavorful bottles to start popping up on shelves soon.
