Häagen-Dazs Ice Cream Recalled Across 31 States for Life-Threatening Allergen

Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc. has issued a recall for a limited number of Häagen-Dazs ice cream products due to a labeling error. A select batch of Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars has been recalled because the product may contain wheat, but the allergen warning is not present on the label. 

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) requires all major allergens to be listed on food labels; otherwise, those with allergies or sensitivities can run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.

How To Identify the Recalled Häagen-Dazs Ice Cream Bars

The recalled Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars were sold in six-count packages at Kroger and Giant Eagle stores. The recalled ice cream was sold at Krogers in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming; and at Giant Eagles in Indiana, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

All the recalled Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars bear the batch code “LLA519501” and best-by date of Jan. 31, 2027. You can find label images to help you identify if you have the recalled ice cream on the FDA’s site.

No other batches of Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars or Häagen-Dazs products are impacted by this recall.

What To Do if You Have the Recalled Häagen-Dazs Ice Cream Bars

Dreyers is currently investigating the recall, but the company believes that wheat-containing products were incorrectly packaged into Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars packages during the production run. Therefore, the box was not given the proper warning label to alert customers of the potential presence of wheat.

At this time, no illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported. However, if you have a wheat allergy or sensitivity, you should not consume the Häagen-Dazs Mini Bars as they could cause a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction. 

Instead, throw them away or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. 

If you don’t have a wheat allergy or sensitivity, you do not have to respond to this recall. The Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars were recalled due to a labeling error and not because they are inherently unsafe to eat. However, if you want to return the products for a refund or replacement, you are entitled to.
