Happy Passing-Off-Store-Bought-Items-as-Completely-Homemade Season to all who celebrate! There’s no shame in this holiday game. Even Ina Garten passes off Trader Joe’s as homemade during this busy time of year. And now that Martha Stewart is at the drive-thru, all bets are off.
You could throw an entire Thanksgiving feast with all the fast food and fast-casual menu items available right now if you didn’t want to cook at all. A whole, roasted turkey from Popeyes? Yes, that’s a thing. An XL bucket of Panera’s iconic Broccoli Cheddar Soup? It’s on the catering menu. But the absolute best place to order holiday food for a crowd is Cracker Barrel.
In addition to Cracker Barrel’s limited-time, in-restaurant holiday menu, the chain offers a vast order-and-pick-up selection with all of the greatest hits in classic, country comfort food, from sweet potato casserole to homestyle mashed potatoes and turkey gravy. There’s also an entire lineup of holiday pies, from pecan to pumpkin to a creation that took the internet by storm last year.
And now it’s back.
Cracker Barrel’s Cinnamon Roll Pie Is Back
If you missed it last year, allow us to introduce you to the Cracker Barrel Cinnamon Roll Pie. That’s right. Cinnamon Roll Pie. No, it’s not a cinnamon-flavored pie. It’s literally a pan of cinnamon rolls baked into a buttery pie crust and slathered in cream cheese icing, thereby creating an ooey, gooey, caky, flaky concoction that feels so wrong—yet tastes so right.
Cracker Barrel
Fans, such as a dessert queen, @morganchomps, shared videos on Instagram of the diabolical pie last year, and people were immediately sold on the concept.
“I gotta hand it to Cracker Barrel,” said the Instagram star in the video. “Their cinnamon rolls are so cinnamon-y. They’ve got that nice cinnamon that isn’t dry and like a paste. It’s less like a dry rub and more like a sticky sauce.”
“It was so freaking good!” a fan commented.
“Holy moly,” said another. “Too bad we don’t have one around these parts.”
And this year, the mash-up is already winning over new fans. Instagrammer @ashleynclifford shared a video trying the returning pie and loved it, saying, “This would be a perfect pie for Thanksgiving breakfast.” Though they did note that it “feels so strange cutting into cinnamon rolls in a pie shape.”
So it is a dinner dessert because it’s a pie, or a breakfast treat because it’s a cinnamon roll? We say it’s perfect for both. The Cinnamon Roll Pie $14.49, and, like all of the other Cracker Barrel heat-and-eat holiday pies, this one will only be around through Dec. 24.
Personally, I love cinnamon rolls with coffee on New Year’s Day while watching the Rose Parade on TV, so I’d suggest buying two of these pies for the holiday season and freezing one, so you have it ready to kick off the New Year.
