We’re always on the lookout for exciting new finds at Costco. Earlier this month, the warehouse store brought back a fan-loved chocolate dessert and debuted a new food court item that reminds us of a frozen drive-thru favorite.
Now, just ahead of the holiday season, a popular butter is back on shelves, and it’s giving the beloved brand Kerrygold some serious competition.
Golden Irish Spreadable Butter Returns to Costco
On a recent shopping trip, we spotted Golden Irish Spreadable Butter back on shelves at Costco. The grass-fed butter appears to be a direct competitor of Kerrygold Irish Butter with Olive Oil. Even the labels look strikingly similar, each listing olive oil, water, and salt as ingredients. One slight wording difference, however, is that Kerrygold’s first ingredient is pasteurized cream, whereas the competitor’s lists butter as the first ingredient.
Each tub of Golden Irish Spreadable Butter at Costco is 32 ounces, meaning you’ll have plenty to use all throughout the holiday season. Beyond buttering rolls, you can add it to vegetables, pasta, meat, and baked potatoes. It can also be a shortcut when preparing compound butter for steak.
In a Reddit thread, users shared their thoughts on the find. “I love this butter for making breakfast and for sautéing dinners when I want a buttery flavor, versus [using] olive oil alone,” one person wrote.
Others chimed in to offer their thoughts on the brand. “‘I’m hoping it freezes well because I’m stocking up!” said one fan. “This stuff is amazing. Better quality overall than any spreadable butter I’ve ever bought.” Another added that it’s “heads above others in taste.”
We should note that while spreadable butter is a convenient way to add rich flavor, it’s not suitable for all recipes. We don’t recommend it for use in cookies, pie crust, or in sweet treats that could easily be overpowered by olive oil flavor. For those, you can snag a pack of Kirkland’s traditional Kerrygold copycat butter, which is made with just cream and salt.
You can find Golden Irish Spreadable Butter in 2-pound blue tubs with a gold lid in the refrigerated dairy section. We don’t know if this will be a limited-time offering or if it will be available throughout the holiday season, so be sure to check with your local store and stock up if you see it.
