Costco’s New Souper Cubes Copycat Set Is Half the Price—and Fans Are Buying It Over the Name Brand

If you’re not familiar with Souper Cubes, let me introduce you to one of the most helpful kitchen tools of all time. These nifty, pre-portioned trays make it incredibly easy to freeze portions of soup (hence the name), casseroles, stews, breads, pastas, cookie dough, baby food, or just about anything that can hold up in the freezer.

They’re available in multiple sizes and shapes, which makes meal prep a breeze as you can create individual portions of whatever you’re freezing to quickly grab and reheat later for an easy, quick meal. And the stackable design helps you make the most out of your freezer space. 

Souper Cubes are even safe to bake in, so you can make individual portions of your favorite dinner, eat one, and then pop the rest in the freezer to reheat later. This product has become so popular among those who cook for a small household, and it’s also been praised as a great way to reduce food waste. 

So, it’s not surprising that since its inception in 2017, the Souper Cubes brand has gone from an obscure product created by a California couple looking to solve their biggest kitchen woes to a bonafide success—selling millions of dollars worth of products and transforming the kitchen storage industry forever. However, Souper Cubes aren’t cheap, with each tray selling individually for $22.

But Costco’s latest find is a copycat set of this beloved product, which, by the bundle, is priced at just $6.50 per tray. And some fans say that Costco’s version is even better.

Miu Silicone Free Freezer Trays Now Available at Costco

Costco’s Miu Silicone Freezer Trays With Lids are a Souper Cube copycat, with a more appealing price tag. The warehouse set includes one half-cup tray, two one-cup trays, two two-cup trays, and interchangeable lids for each tray. The five-pack is priced at $32 (or even less in some Costco locations), which is less than $6.50 per tray.

Like Souper Cubes, these food-grade silicone trays come with convenient fill lines available in metric and standard units. They’re also dishwasher safe, as well as oven safe—up to 446 degrees F.

Besides the price, the Miu trays have a beneficial feature that the name brand does not. Instead of straight sides, the Miu trays taper just a bit, which makes them stackable when not in use. The Souper Cubes trays are not able to nest, making them clunkier to store.

“I think I would like the stackability when not in use,” shared one Facebook user. “To me, that’s an upgrade.”

And some fans prefer the Miu rounded corners for easier washing. Likewise, others Costco shoppers state the tapered edges make frozen portions “easier to remove.”
