The Costco bakery aisle is certainly one of my weaknesses. The easiest way for me to go over my grocery budget? I come across a new Costco treat that I can’t resist trying. From seasonal finds like the luscious pumpkin cheesecake and apple fritter donut bites to permanent options like the tuxedo mousse cake, you can’t judge me for splurging a bit on a little sweet treat.Â
Outside of the fabulous cakes and pies, the grocery warehouse is known to bring in new bakery items on occasion, even if they aren’t exactly seasonal finds. We recently saw a new cookie tray earning the stamp of approval from shoppers. And the latest treat to grace Costco’s bakery aisle is already causing a stir.
Costco Is Selling Mini Beignets At Select LocationsÂ
A new bakery item is always bound to get Costco shoppers talking, and this find is no exception. The new Mini Beignets Filled With Chocolate Hazelnut have fans in a tizzy, with both excitement and slight disappointment since the launch is limited to stores in Los Angeles and the Bay Area region as part of a market test.Â
If you aren’t familiar, beignets are a traditional New Orleans-style pastry. They are typically made by deep-frying fluffy pastry dough, and are then served warm with a generous dusting of powdered sugar. The new mini beignets sold at Costco are filled with a rich chocolate hazelnut spread, which is similar to Nutella.
The bakery find is allegedly not an entirely new product. Some shoppers claim they’ve seen the treat sold at Costco warehouses in Canada, Mexico, and Japan. But with a test run hitting the U.S., fans are hopeful there will be a widespread release soon.
In a recent Reddit post, the beignets have become a hot topic of discussion. Those who are lucky enough to have tried the bakery find have had nothing but positive things to say, with one shopper sharing, “They are absolutely amazing. Light and pillowy with basically Nutella inside.”
“They had these this morning and I resisted. I might need to rethink that choice,” commented one prospective buyer.Â
Others are eagerly awaiting news on whether they’ll be able to purchase the treats, writing, “Let’s hope they roll these out nationwide sooner rather than later. A box or two of these would make for a more festive holiday season.”
“I would eat a box a day of these,” another wrote.
Even Costco employees are wondering if the beignets will be sold in their club store, “As a Costco bakery employee who’s never seen these, I’m in awe and I seriously hope my region gets these. I’d be soooo happy to package these, holy moly.”
Each container has 22 mini beignets and costs about $9.99, but prices may vary. If you happen to live in Los Angeles or the Bay Area, head to your nearest Costco to give these tasty treats a try. And if not, you give one of our beignet recipes a go—and keep your fingers crossed that they become available near you soon.
