Coca-Cola Is Bringing Back a Retro Fan-Favorite Flavor for a Limited Time

I’m a proud Diet Pepsi girl. PepsiCo has figured out how to fake that authentic cola flavor better than Coca-Cola. However, when the soda giants start messing around with added flavors and new fruit mash-ups, Coke takes the lead. When Retro Diet Cherry Coke returned earlier this year, my allegiance quickly switched to Coke. It’s just superior compared to Pepsi’s Wild Cherry franchise.

And there’s another Diet Coke variation that bests Diet Pepsi. You can easily create it at home, and I always order a Diet Coke this way at restaurants—especially in Europe—but there’s something so nice about having it all pre-mixed and ready to go in a can. However, this specific variety of Diet Coke hasn’t been around for a while.

The cola companies giveth, and the cola companies taketh away. But sometimes those soda giants listen to us common folk, especially when we don’t give up badgering companies on social media. With the success of Retro Diet Cherry Coke earlier this year, it seems Diet Coke fans finally made the case for more vintage flavors to come out of that storied Coca-Cola soda vault.

Lime is back, y’all.

Diet Coke Lime Is Coming Back This Fall

The wait is over. Retro Diet Coke Lime will return to store shelves this fall. The refreshing blast from the past combines that signature Diet Coke flavor with just the right amount of zing from zesty lime. (And if you’re a dirty soda fan, this means you’re just one step away from the viral recipe.)

Just like Retro Diet Cherry Coke, the new throwback lime soda features a fun ’80s label and graphic design treatment, complete with that signature neon lime green font. The soda will be sold in 12-pack cans as well as single 20-ounce bottles. But according to a press email, these are only available while supplies last.

If fan enthusiasm is any indication, supplies won’t last long. When soda buff @markie_devo posted about the returning flavor on Instagram, the comments were flooded with excitement.

“This is the best day of my life,” said one fan. “OMG yes,” said another. “I add True Lime packets to my Diet Coke every day so this is amazing.”

“I thought this day would never come,” said one more excited fan. “I’ve been craving this! It’s the only Diet Coke I like.”

Even Crayola—yes, the crayon company—jumped into the discussion, asking, “Am I dreaming or is this real?”

Unlike the Retro Diet Cherry Coke release earlier this year, which was a Kroger exclusive, Retro Diet Coke Lime is rolling out nationwide to more grocery stores and major retailers. The flavor will hit store shelves on Oct. 6.

But, as the adorable label reads, this soda is only around for a limited time. So, stock up this October before the iconic flavor goes back into the Coca-Cola vault.
