Nowadays, we fast food fans have become used to new menu items being released on a regular basis. It seems like every time we hit the Taco Bell, McDonald’s, or Wendy’s drive-thru, there’s a new burrito, burger, or chicken strip to try—not to mention all the returning items that have fans just as hyped.

Only a few chains with ultra-simple menus remain, including Five Guys, In-N-Out, and Raising Cane’s. We’d also throw Chick-fil-A in that category, with just a few full-time offerings that the chicken chain has homed in on, and one or two seasonal options that stick around for a few months.

Because Chick-fil-A doesn’t offer a rotating menu that changes as quickly as some other chains, it’s important that everything it introduces is almost guaranteed to be a hit—which requires a lot of menu testing. The fan-loved Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich took five years to perfect before hitting restaurants and this fall’s Pretzel Cheddar Club Sandwich was a success story from another test market.

Now, as Chick-fil-A plans its 2026 menu launches, the chain is running a few tests to round out the year. It recently ran a super speedy test for a S’mores Milkshake and S’mores Frosted Coffee in Austin, Texas. Now, the chicken chain is about to begin a new menu test for an item that we can’t believe it hasn’t offered yet: chicken and waffles.

Chick-fil-A To Test New Chicken & Waffles Sandwich in December

Chick-fil-A

For years, chicken and waffles have been the perfect answer to the lifelong question: Do you want savory or sweet for breakfast? Yet, it’s been largely ignored by fast food chains. KFC briefly offered chicken and waffles, which it brought back to menus for a limited time earlier this year.

Now, Chick-fil-A is trying its hand at chicken and waffles with a new sandwich. The chain will test two versions: a Chicken & Waffles Breakfast Sandwich and a Chicken & Waffles Sandwich.

Chick-fil-A hasn’t shared much information on the menu test, but from the photo the chain provided, it appears the new sandwich will feature Chick-fil-A’s signature chicken breast and bacon on a Belgian-style waffle that’s served with a side of syrup. The breakfast version will have a slightly smaller chicken breast and waffle, while the lunch/dinner version will use Chick-fil-A’s regular sized chicken and a larger waffle. Additionally, we’re told that both options can be ordered with classic, spicy, or grilled chicken.

The new Chicken & Waffles Sandwiches will be tested at select restaurants in Baltimore, Maryland, and San Antonio, Texas. Baltimore restaurants will serve both the Chicken & Waffles Breakfast Sandwich and the Chicken & Waffles Sandwich, while San Antonio restaurants will only be testing the Chicken & Waffles Breakfast Sandwich.

This menu test will run for longer than the S’mores test, with both sandwiches hitting menus on Dec. 1 and being sold through Jan. 24, or while supplies last.

You can check the Chick-fil-A app to find out if your local restaurant is testing the menu items.

From what we know about Chick-fil-A menu tests, it can take more than a year to go from market test to nationwide menus. So, don’t expect a Chicken & Waffles Sandwich to be at your Chick-fil-A in the early part of 2026. But, if now you’re craving something new from the chain, its holiday Chicken Tortilla Soup and Peppermint Chip Milkshake are officially back on menus and calling your name.
