Simple and delicious, this oven baked Salmon recipe is perfect midweek family friendly meal that’s all made in one pan. It’s drenched in garlic, herbs and lemon, making this a mouthwateringly healthy dinner.

Salmon has so much of its own amazing flavour that quite often I choose to keep things as basic as possible.

This fish on my weekly meal plan because of all of the nutrients and everyone here loves it, so quite often I will turn it into tacos or a burger, but my own personal favourite is this easy Baked Salmon recipe.

It’s ultra simple, succulent and full of flavour.

Tip on skin

If your salmon has skin on it and you know you won’t eat this, just bake it on some foil, skin side down, and when you gently lift the cooked salmon from the tray it should leave the skin behind!


Ingredients for Baked Salmon

  • Oil – Go for olive oil.
  • Garlic – Fresh, peeled and crushed.
  • Lemon – This gives a lovely, zesty flavour in the oil dressing.
  • Salmon – It’s best to use fresh skinless and boneless salmon fillets from the supermarket or fishmonger for this so we don’t have any fiddly work to do. This recipe serves 4 people – if you want to serve for more than this it may be more economical to buy a side of salmon. If you do decide to do this then you can follow this recipe, however you should increase your cooking time to around 20-30 minutes.
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper – Season generously.
  • To serve – Chopped fresh parsley.

How to Bake Salmon in the Oven

1. Mix the olive oil with the garlic and the zest of the lemon.

2. Place the salmon fillets in a baking dish, drizzle over the olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Bake as per the recipe below.


The best temperature to bake salmon at

You will get a nice, even cook by baking the salmon at 180℃/350F Fan, 200℃/400F or Gas Mark 6.


How long to bake salmon for

Salmon bakes well in about 10-15 minutes, but it may depend on your oven temperature as to exactly when it’s cooked perfectly. 

If you’re not sure, keep checking and be careful not to overcook it.

It shouldn’t have that telltale white residue coming from it. If you notice this on the fish, remove it from the oven straight away.


Leftovers

In the fridge Baked salmon is perfect for cold leftovers the next day (or it will keep for up to 3 days). It’s great in a salad, sandwich, pasta or with a jacket potato!

FAQs

Can I use this recipe for another type of fish?

Yes, this recipe works wonders for most types of fish too! You could try some seabass, cod or haddock if you want to go for a white fish. It’s up to you.

Is this a gluten free Baked Salmon recipe?

Yes! It’s naturally gluten free, no need to adapt.

You can but I would recommend defrosting it first and draining off any excess water before you bake it.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 Garlic clove Peeled and crushed
  • 1 Lemon
  • 4 Skinless salmon fillets
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper To season

To serve:

  • 2 tbsp Finely chopped parsley

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 180℃/350F Fan, 200℃/400F or Gas Mark 6.
  • Mix the olive oil with the garlic and the zest of the lemon.
  • Place the salmon fillets in a baking dish, then drizzle over the olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  • Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes until the salmon flakes apart when you press it and looks opaque. Serve with the remaining lemon cut into wedges and chopped parsley.

Notes

Servings: This is a really good recipe to scale down- if you want to cook for less people just reduce the recipe accordingly, it’s the perfect supper for nights on your own.
