Peppermint is one of the quintessential flavors of the holiday season. Just ask fast food chains like Chick-fil-A and Starbucks, which are always keen to include plenty of peppermint-flavored treats in their holiday menu lineups. There’s just something about minty, red-and-white winter treats that make it feel like the holidays.
And just in time for Christmas songs to start playing on the radio, one of my family’s favorite peppermint treats is officially back in grocery stores.
Ghirardelli Peppermint Bark Is Officially Back
Ghirardelli is bringing back its iconic, fan-loved holiday offering: Ghirardelli Peppermint Bark Squares. Made with two layers of chocolate and peppermint, these little squares of deliciousness have become a holiday staple with peppermint fans, including those in my own family.
In addition to the traditional squares, Ghirardelli has brought back several beloved peppermint bark products, including its peppermint hot chocolate mix and adorable Peppermint Bark Snowmen.
And this year, Ghirardelli is debuting a new, limited-edition holiday sweater inspired by the fan-favorite treat. It features festive red-and-white stripes, and, of course, pockets designed to perfectly fit one square of Ghirardelli Peppermint Bark. The limited-edition sweater will be available for purchase exclusively on ghirardelli.com starting in December.
But if you’re a peppermint bark purist, there’s good news: Ghirardelli Peppermint Bark has also returned to Costco warehouses in a club-sized, 16.2-ounce bag. The bag, which retails for $19.99, contains a mix of Peppermint Bark Squares, Dark Chocolate Peppermint Bark Squares, and Peppermint Bark Snowmen. It’s ideal for stocking-stuffing, at-home holiday snacking, or all your other gifting needs.
Peppermint bark also makes for an amazing addition to holiday baking. Chopped peppermint bark is the perfect topping for our Peppermint Pound Cake or Easy Peppermint Bark Cheesecake, and it gives any batch of brownies an instant festive upgrade.
But in my house, Ghirardelli Peppermint Bark rarely lasts long enough to become a baking ingredient. This weekend, I found a bag on a run to Dollar Tree priced at $6 and picked it up for my teenage son, who’d recently proclaimed the candy to be his favorite. When he opened it, I snagged a piece for myself (the mom tax), but when my husband went to do the same, he was met with resistance from our 17-year-old.
“Hey! There are only a few pieces in each bag,” he exclaimed, adding, “She bought these for me!” He wasn’t wrong, so I reluctantly shared my delicious piece of peppermint bark with my husband to spare our son being robbed of another precious bite. Next time, I’ll pick up a Costco-sized bag and save us the drama.
