Nothing beats the comfort of a nostalgic pudding cup—especially when it comes to Jell-O’s classic lineup of tasty flavors. I always look back fondly on my elementary school days, when my parents packed me a chocolate pudding cup. The simple dessert was always a delicious way to end lunch.
Though it’s been ages since I’ve indulged in a pudding cup, the latest Trader Joe’s find may have me enjoying them once again. A beloved dessert is returning in a new way to TJ’s, and fans are so happy it’s back.

Trader Joe’s has a reputation for unique snacks and treats, but the grocery chain also has a tendency to suddenly discontinue products with no warning. One recent casualty was the fan-favorite Belgian Chocolate Pudding, which disappeared about four years ago. Luckily, Trader Joe’s just introduced two new snack cups: Chocolate Pudding and Rice Pudding.
First up, we have Chocolate Pudding, with its rich, decadent flavor and silky smooth texture. Then there’s the Rice Pudding. This creamy treat has delicate notes of vanilla, and the rice adds just enough texture to make it a satisfying snack. Spice up the simple dessert with a pinch of cinnamon and brown sugar for some added warmth this fall.
TJ’s fans took to Reddit to dish their opinions on the new finds. “A few years ago, I was heartbroken when Trader Joe’s discontinued the Belgian Chocolate Pudding, but they just brought back new versions of Chocolate Pudding and Rice Pudding,” shared one Redditor. “I might cry happy tears if it tastes the same,” they added.
While most conceded that the chocolate pudding wasn’t an exact match for the discontinued version, it was still a popular choice. One Redditor stated, “The Belgian was the absolute best; these are pretty good, almost close enough, but not quite.”
Another shopper mentioned the similarity to the classic Snack Pack brand, sharing, “I never had the old pudding, but as someone who eats Snack Pack on the regular, I was very happy with this!”
The rice pudding was also a big hit, with one Trader Joe’s shopper remarking on its balanced sweetness. “It’s sweet but not too sweet, and it’s got a good texture,” they said. “It seems more authentic/closer to homemade than other store-bought ones.”
Each pack comes with four single-serve cups that contain about 3.5 ounces of pudding. On Trader Joe’s website, the Rice Pudding is currently priced at $2.99, which is less than $1 per cup. Some Redditors are already reporting that they’re selling fast, so don’t wait to give these a try and see how the new chocolate pudding compares to the old fan favorite.
