As a food editor, I’ll admit there’s one thing I love more than eating, and that’s learning about food traditions. There’s just so much wrapped up in it, from history to cultural exchange, community, creativity, family, and more. One country with some unique food traditions is Sweden. There’s fika, a term used to describe enjoying a coffee and a treat at any time of the day. Then there’s the practice of having pea soup and pancakes on Thursdays. And, even more endearing, there’s lördagsgodis, or “Saturday candy,” which describes the ritual of families visiting their local candy shop on Saturdays to stock up on their favorite sweets.
But it’s not just any old Hershey bar the Swedes are picking up. The confections that Swedish families collect in bulk are technicolor and impressively chewy. The sour varieties are deliciously tart, and the salty ones are tongue-numbingly sharp. As some of the world’s largest consumers of candy, it’s safe to say Swedes know a thing or two about it. And now, a new partnership is making it easier than ever for U.S. Americans to enjoy the irresistible taste of Swedish candy.
Sockerbit Candy Bags Now Available at Target
Sockerbit, a beloved pick-and-mix Swedish candy shop, is now offering some of its fan-favorite candies exclusively at Target stores nationwide. The shop imports dozens of Scandinavian candies with bold flavors and unique textures, ranging from mouth-puckering gummies to salty licorice, chocolates, taffy, and more. Before this partnership, its candy has only been available at the flagship store in Los Angeles and online.
The gummy mixes are slowly rolling out now, so if you haven’t seen them at your local Target yet, rest assured, they are on their way. Sockerbit is offering five different mixes for this launch: Sour Gummy, Sweet Gummy, Sour Cherry Cola, Foamy Strawberry Dream, and Sour Fruity Heart. Like all Sockerbit candy, these products contain no artificial colors, flavors, or high-fructose corn syrup.
There’s no denying that Swedish candy has gained massive popularity in the U.S. in recent years, to the extent that it sparked a global shortage last year. So, when Sockerbit shared the news of its new Target partnership, it’s no surprise that fans were thrilled.
“The Midwest girl in me is so happy that everyone can enjoy this from their local Target now,” a fan commented on Sockerbit’s Instagram page. “Love you guys.”
“OMG! Running to Target tomorrow!” added another enthusiastic Instagrammer.
If you haven’t tried any of Sockerbit’s candy, then maybe this simple declaration from a fan will be enough to move you: “This candy is the best!”
The biggest candy holiday of the year might be behind us, but there are still plenty of good reasons to keep a sweet stash close to your desk. For starters, we are diving headfirst into the dark season, and a handful of colorful gummies could be the burst of brightness you need on a dreary day. So, the next time you’re at Target, keep an eye out for Sockerbit’s candy. Whether it’s pastel pink flowers or chewy dog-shaped treats, we could all use a little lördagsgodis spirit this winter.
