The holidays are almost here, so it’s time to stock up on all of your favorite winter goodies, from the peppermint mocha creamer you’ve been craving to Coca-Cola’s new seasonal soda. But, if you ask me, holiday flavors can get kind of stale. They all seem to recycle on an annual basis with peppermint, gingerbread, and white chocolate popping up on every grocery store aisle. And there are only so many iterations of peppermint bark you can consume before you practically turn into a candy cane.
This holiday season, give some attention to a flavor that often flies under the radar: eggnog. I know, I know. The actual beverage is a little divisive, but even eggnog haters change their tune when it comes to a slice of eggnog cheesecake, eggnog cookies, or, my favorite limited-edition ice cream that’s finally made its return to the freezer aisle.
Jeni’s Boozy Eggnog Ice Cream Returns for the Holiday Season
Eggnog ice cream? The concept sounds simple enough that it’s hard to believe more brands aren’t capitalizing on the flavor. Maybe it’s because other brands know it would be impossible to compete with Jeni’s Ice Creams.
Jeni’s Boozy Eggnog has finally returned to grocery stores. If you’ve never tried the seasonal flavor, it promises a “velvety egg custard spiked with nutmeg and Uncle Nearest Whiskey,” the latter of which is what gives the pint its “Boozy” moniker. The ice cream is inspired by Jeni’s CEO and founder Jeni Britton’s grandfather, who wouldn’t drink a glass of eggnog without spiking it with his favorite whiskey.
Like other Jeni’s pints, Boozy Eggnog is listed as $12 on Jeni’s website and it’s also available for purchase as a holiday collection with other seasonal flavors. Though this particular variety seems to make a return every winter, it’s not offered year-round, and the rich flavor is worth stocking up on. Jeni’s fans on Reddit agree, and have praised the ice cream, calling it “ridiculously smooth and creamy.”
“Just finished my pint yesterday,” another Redditor said. “Loved it!”
“This is for the nog fans,” another chimed in.
Some Redditors have reported finding the flavor at Kroger and Whole Foods, as well as Jeni’s scoops shops. And Fred Meyer is also carrying the flavor for less than $9 right now!
The ultimate verdict? Even if you don’t like sipping eggnog, it’s worth trying it in ice cream form, and the addition of whiskey and warm, festive spices complements the eggnog so well. If you see a pint of this ice cream at your local store, grab one (or two…or five!) while it’s still available.
