Nowadays, I’m never too surprised to learn what my favorite celebrities eat, but rather how many of them are creatures of habit when it comes to meals. OK, I’ll admit that Jason Momoa’s daily breakfast, which consists of a rice bowl with egg, avocado, and sardines, did make me take a slight double-take. But, I suppose, if you need to look the same in every frame of a movie or are maintaining weight for football season, it makes sense to eat the same thing day after day.Â
So, when Reese Witherspoon shared that she’s been eating the same breakfast for 10 years, I realized she’s in great company with the likes of Jennifer Garner, Courteney Cox, Margot Robbie, and Emma Stone. While Witherspoon’s daily meal is not as much fun as Robbie’s chippy sandwich or Stone’s McDonald’s, her recipe has “changed everything” for her, she says.
The Breakfast Reese Witherspoon Has Eaten Every Day for 10 Years
“Every morning, I make a green smoothie,” Witherspoon shared on a recent episode of the podcast “Table Manners.”
“Do you actually enjoy that?” one of the hosts asks the actress.Â
“I actually enjoy it,” Witherspoon responds. “I’ve been drinking it for 10 years. It’s changed my skin, my hair. It makes your eyes white. Everything.”
“The Morning Show” actress isn’t kidding about how long she’s been drinking her go-to smoothie. Witherspoon posted a video on Instagram in 2020 showing how to make the drink.Â
“This is the smoothie that I drink every single day, and I have probably for eight years,” she says.Â
In fact, the Academy Award-winning actress says she learned the recipe from another powerhouse actress—and one Witherspoon would later share the screen with—Kerry Washington.Â
“I sat next to her at an awards show, and I didn’t really know her, but I was like, ‘Your skin is so beautiful, what do you do?’ And she said, ‘Actually, I think it’s from this drink that I drink, it’s just really changed my skin, and it makes my hair and nails really strong.’ So I was in,” Witherspoon recalls in the video.
How To Make Reese Witherspoon’s Go-To Green Smoothie
To make Witherspoon’s smoothie, you’ll only need a handful of fruits and vegetables.Â
“I put in spinach, romaine lettuce, an apple, a pear, a banana, and a whole lemon,” Witherspoon said on the “Table Manners” podcast.Â
Though after watching her Instagram video making the smoothie, it seems she left out one ingredient: the coconut water that thins the smoothie. According to the video, Witherspoon uses two heads of romaine, 1/2 cup of spinach, 1/2 cup of coconut water, one banana, one apple, one pear, and one whole lemon with the rinds removed—then, she optionally adds celery and almond butter.
“I know it looks like it tastes gross, but it tastes so good,” she says with a laugh.
I may just have to take Witherspoon’s word for it. But, also, if this is what has kept the actress nourished since her “Four Christmases” years, then get me a blender and a head of lettuce!
