McDonald’s Iconic Promotion Is Back for the First Time in Nearly 10 Years

Fast food lovers, we don’t even have to tell you because you already know—there have been a lot of exciting comebacks this year. After a 13-year hiatus, Burger King surprised us with the return of the Cini Minis, a sweet, fan-favorite treat that thousands of people had petitioned to bring back. In the same month, KFC took a break from dropping new menu items and reached into its bag of tricks to revive its iconic Potato Wedges.

Not to be left out, Taco Bell joined the retro food trend with the Decades Y2K menu, which brought back not one, not two, but five discontinued menu items. 

And then there’s McDonald’s. After years of begging, the chain finally gave fans what they wanted most: Snack Wraps. But that’s not all. Shortly after the Snack Wraps made their way back to menus, the chain warmed our hearts with the McDonaldland Meal, featuring nostalgic characters from the restaurant’s fictional world we haven’t seen since the early 2000s.

Now, the Golden Arches has another exciting relaunch up its sleeve, and this time it comes with a modern twist. 

Monopoly Game Returns to McDonald’s in the U.S.

For the first time in nearly a decade, McDonald’s Monopoly is returning to restaurants across the U.S. Beginning Sept. 29 through Oct. 5, fans can download the McDonald’s app and pre-register for the game. Those who do so will receive 500 bonus MyMcDonald’s Rewards points to get a jump-start on earning prizes.

Starting Oct. 6, fans can officially collect game pieces by ordering in-store and via the mobile app. More than 30 of the chain’s most popular items are eligible to receive a game piece. Some will be digital-only, but don’t worry, plenty of physical game pieces will be offered as well, so you can still enjoy that satisfying peel-off experience.

Physical game pieces must be scanned in the app to reveal a prize or collect a digital property piece. On the other hand, when you earn digital pieces, you can “peel” right in the app. Some pieces will feature “instant win” prizes, such as free food, while others may be a property piece that can be combined with others to receive one of the grand prizes.

Every time you collect a game piece, physical or digital, you’ll be able to play a bonus game for a second chance to score big.

Which McDonald’s Menu Items Earn Monopoly Game Pieces?

Physical Game Piece Menu Items: The following McDonald’s menu items will come with physical game pieces located on the item’s packaging.

• Big Mac
• Filet-O-Fish
• McMuffin Sandwiches
• 10-piece Chicken McNuggets
• 20-piece Chicken McNuggets
• Large fries
• Hash browns
• Large fountain drink
• Large iced tea
• Large McCafé iced coffee
• Select medium and large-sized McCafé drinks, including premium roast coffee, latte, mocha, macchiato, cappuccino, americano, and hot chocolate

Digital-Only Game Piece Menu Items: The following items do not include a physical game piece. To redeem, these must be claimed using the McDonald’s app.

• Quarter Pounder with cheese
• McCrispy Sandwiches
• 4-piece McCrispy Strips
• McGriddles Sandwiches (Excludes Sausage McGriddles)
• Biscuit Sandwiches (Excludes Sausage Biscuit Sandwich)
• Medium fries
• Select large McCafé beverages, such as Frappé, latte, iced mocha, smoothie, and macchiato 

What are the 2025 Prizes for McDonald’s Monopoly?

This year, Monopoly players will have the chance to win a range of prizes. To start, you can score free food in two different ways. Some of the winning pieces will give away favorites such as Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuits, Double Cheeseburgers, and Snack Wraps. But if you don’t win a specific menu item, you may still receive MyMcDonald’s Rewards points, which can be compiled and used toward freebies in the app. 

Beyond food, McDonald’s is giving away 1 million American Airlines AAdvantage miles, a $50,000 vacation to a Monopoly Go! location, and a $10,000 Lowe’s shopping spree. In addition, the Bonus Play game will include the chance to receive a 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, exclusive experiences from the Coca-Cola Company, and one lucky player could even collect $1 million in cash. 

Be sure to register for the game in the McDonald’s app, and don’t forget to opt-in to Rewards before placing your orders—otherwise, you may not be eligible to receive digital game pieces. McDonald’s Monopoly will conclude on Nov. 2, or while supplies last, so be sure to hit the drive-thru for your chance to win.
