Whether you make it from scratch or buy premade dough, there’s nothing better than a freshly baked sugar cookie. When the air starts getting cooler and the leaves begin to change, we know we’re not the only ones flocking to Pillsbury’s nostalgic, ready-to-bake Shape Cookies to celebrate. From cookies with adorable ghosts printed on them to cookies featuring none other than the Grinch for Christmas, you can always count on the brand to roll out fun and festive seasonal treats. However, due to their popularity, it can sometimes be challenging to secure a package as they tend to sell out quickly.
If you’re like me and have found yourself racing to the grocery store for Pillsbury cookies, only to come out empty-handed—on more than one occasion—then listen up. Trader Joe’s just unveiled its own version of a ready-to-bake cookie, and it’s giving Pillsbury some serious competition.
Trader Joe’s Introduces New Pumpkins Sugar Cookie Dough
For a limited time, Trader Joe’s is offering a copycat version of the famous Pillsbury ready-to-bake Shape Cookies. The new Pumpkins Sugar Cookie Dough is mixed and measured, cut to size to make 12 cookies, and decorated with an orange pumpkin in the middle.
To bake them, simply break off the desired number of cookies from the package and bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for approximately 12 minutes. Once they’re cooled off, they’re ready to enjoy alongside a cup of warm apple cider or your favorite fall beverage.
When Instagram’s @trader_joes_treasure_hunt shared the news online, fans were quick to share their enthusiasm for the new item. One person commented, “Yes!!! I so have to try it!”
Another fan added, “Finally!”
Others questioned what we’re all thinking: “Are they better than Pillsbury though?” To which the original poster commented “yes” in response.
While the product looks nearly identical to Pillsbury’s, there are subtle differences between the two variations, including the pumpkins depicted on the cookies. Pillsbury’s features a jack-o’-lantern with eyes and a mouth, while Trader Joe’s is a simple orange pumpkin. Not to mention, Pillsbury offers 20 cookies that are famously safe to eat raw, while TJ’s product contains only 12 and needs to be baked before consuming.
Whether or not you’re a regular Trader Joe’s shopper, one thing’s for sure: The neighborhood grocer is proving it can also get in on the holiday cookie fun. If you’re hoping to snag a package for the next movie night or a cozy evening in, then be sure to swing by your nearest location—there’s no telling how long these will stay in stores for.
